Certifications and Compliance by Market
In short
Which standard applies depends on the market and on the type of unit. Humidifiers sit under a dedicated standard — IEC 60335-2-98 — alongside the general appliance standard IEC 60335-1. In the United States the relevant UL standard is UL 998. In the European Union a humidifier is covered by the Low Voltage Directive, the EMC Directive and RoHS. In Japan, humidifiers and aroma diffusers are named items on the METI list under the Electrical Appliance and Material Safety Act. In Korea the safety standard is KC 60335-2-98.
We supply test reports and certificate copies for the models that hold them, and we tell you plainly which documents apply to your model and market rather than claiming that every model holds every certificate. The official sources for each statement below are linked, so you can check them yourself. Final compliance is confirmed by the testing laboratory.
Certifications by market
What each market requires, and what we can supply for a given model.
| Market | Requirement | What we supply |
|---|---|---|
| International / IEC | IEC 60335-1 and IEC 60335-2-98 | Test reports issued against the applicable standard |
| United States | — | Certificate copies and test reports where the model holds them |
| European Union | — | Declaration of conformity and test reports for the model |
| Japan | — | Certification documents for the model and market |
| Korea | — | Certification documents for the model and market |
We do not claim that every model holds every certificate. Tell us the model and the market and we will confirm what applies and what we can provide.
How testing runs
Five stages, from the configuration decision to the archived file.
- Fix the configuration and the marketVoltage, plug type, model and destination decide which standards apply. This is settled before anything is sent to a laboratory.
- Pre-assessmentWe check the design and the components against the applicable requirements and correct what would fail, before paying for a formal test.
- Laboratory testingThe unit is submitted to an accredited laboratory for the standards your market requires.
- Reports and certificatesYou receive the test report and, where the scheme issues one, the certificate for that model.
- Production consistencyThe documents are archived against the model so that later production runs can be checked against the tested configuration.
Certificates and reports
Documents are issued per model and per market, so we prepare them for the configuration you are buying.
Ask for them against a specific model and market. We do not issue a document for a model that has not been tested for it.
Where these requirements come from
Every statement on this page about which standard or directive applies is taken from the authority that issues it. The links below go to those authorities, so you can verify each one rather than take our word for it.

Two points buyers often get wrong. First, a voluntary certification scheme does not replace the legal obligations of the directives themselves — the European Commission's own pages on the EMC Directive make the distinction, linked above. Second, in Japan a humidifier and an aroma diffuser are not generic “small appliances”: they appear as named items on METI's list, which decides whether the PSE regime applies to your product at all.
If you need a requirement we have not listed — a market outside these four, or a retailer's own specification — ask and we will tell you what we can and cannot confirm.

Ask which documents apply to your model
Send the model and the market you are selling into. We reply with the requirement that applies, the documents we hold for that combination, and what would need testing.
